Me favorite picture ever.
I was ready to grab my book and leave, when someone tapped my shoulder. It was Merida! “Where do you think you’re going?” she asked. I was confused. We did the signing, we did the conversation, we did that picture, then we say good bye. What did I miss? “Don’t I at least get a hug before you go?” I wanted to just cry. I didn’t want to leave, I wanted to just stay and talk more about Scotland and Angus and meeting the Wisps and changing out fate. A hug was going to make leaving all the more painful. But I did it anyway. Everyone was like “Aww.” We hugged it out forever. It was seriously the best day of my life.
The story behind the archery stance was that she knew that I wanted to be able to write my own stories, live my life and do what I need to. Merida told me we needed to draw our bows back and shoot for our own destiny. There were a lot of pictures of this, but I picked the best two out.
Okay, so NOW it’s finally my turn. My book is ready, I’m ready, and I’m about to take a step forward. Merida puts her bow down and looks at me. Before I can even step forward to say hello, she is dragging me by the arm with the biggest smile on her face. I couldn’t even do anything I was too busy crying over the fact she initiated the meeting.
“Hello! How are ya’ today?” she asked me. “I’m wonderful!” I replied. I opened my book and held it out like a little child would and asked her so nicely to sign it. While she was signing it, I let it roll off my tongue. “Merida, you are my favorite princess!” She stopped mid-signature and looked at me. “Am I? Why is that?” she asked. I gave her the short version. “You don’t need a prince! You aren’t afraid to go out and get things done.” The long version? I relate to Merida more than any Disney character. I’m defiant, I do thing my way, I want my freedom, I just want to be who I am. And our relationships with our mothers? Definitely the same there. We don’t really see eye to eye. While she wants the best for me, I never want to listen. I guess I like her so much because I see myself more in her than any other princess I’ve ever liked. And it’s a fresh personality in the world of Disney princesses!
Of course when I mentioned the prince, Merida was very curious. She wanted to know if I was still a free spirit, as in am I single. I had to tell her no, because I do have a boyfriend. The best part? She said “That’s wonderful! Don’t be sad, you were able to find love in your own time!” So the fact she approved of my boyfriend, like every other princess I met did, made me really happy. So she set my book down and we had a conversation.
She really loved my hair. The night before I had braided it so that when I met her, I would have close to messy curls like her. She started playing around with it asking me how my hair did that. I shared my secret with her, but said that I’d rather have her curls than my plain wavy hair. Merida laughed and told me all about the one time she tried to straighten her hair with two books. She said, “Well, I wanted to get rid of the curls. So I grabbed to books to make them straight. I figured I wasn’t going to read them anyways.” She also said that Hamish is notorious for hiding in her hair. She told me all about when she goes riding through the glen that her hair usually gets caught on branches.
So…I’m ready to meet Merida, but I’m glad I didn’t just run in to see her. If I had, my mother would have NEVER gotten this great shot of her! She was very pretty in my opinion.
Now that I’ve made it to the front, I’m crying. I never thought I would’ve made it this far to meet Merida. Its the closest I’ve been to seeing her. The little girl in front of me was taking so long and I was becoming a bit impatient. But then again, I had been standing in the sun for six hours now and I was exhausted. Nothing was going to stop me. My mother went around to the Photo Pass lady to be ready to take some pictures, but not before the attendant could get a quick word with the princess.
So now that we’re inside the queue, I’m jumping up and down like a small child. My mother knows that Brave was a movie that meant a lot to me so she was happy to see me so happy. There were coloring tables and archery for those who had met Merida already but didn’t want to leave. The walls had the tapestries from the movie, and some that Disney had made themselves! The line was still moving slowly, but I was told that I was going to be able to meet her no matter what!
So I just wanted to take everyone through the day I met Merida in honor of her Coronation yesterday. I didn’t have time to do it yesterday so…I’m doing it today!
So after a long four hours in the Magic Kingdom, we were just about ready to head over to Hollywood Studios for lunch. Well my birthday was coming up and our UK friends (hi Sam! He has a tumblr c:) wanted to give me a birthday present. Not only did I get the deluxe figure set from them, but they dragged me to the two hours line to meet Merida. We stood around for 2 hours in the sun waiting. I was not leaving until I had met her. She would be leaving for Castle DunBroch at 3pm and would come back at 3:30. We were nearing the front and it was 2:30, we were thinking we wouldn’t make it. The attendant who is in charge of how many go in at a time asked us how many were in our group. We replied five, it was my mother and I and three of the five UK friends. So the lady ushers us in and closes the ropes saying that we were the last group. Cue me crying xD
Again, you can read it or don’t read it. You can agree or disagree. I just have a lot of opinions on this right now. Alrighty?
